Achieving Honor and Prestige: A Journey with IMONST and the International Mathematical Olympiad!

Everyone dreams of achieving something great—earning honor and recognition in their chosen field. This drive often starts young, even during school years. While not everyone can claim to be the best at what they do, it’s definitely not out of reach if you’re willing to put in the effort. This is the journey of achieving honor and prestige with IMONST and the International Mathematical Olympiad!

Heroes Return from the International Mathematical Olympiad

Just over a month ago, a group of incredible students did just that! They returned from Bath, United Kingdom, carrying medals and big smiles after an amazing performance at the 65th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). These talented young mathematicians were welcomed home by the Minister of Education, YB Fadhlina Sidek, at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

This year is especially memorable—it’s the first time in Malaysia’s 30-year history with the IMO that every single Malaysian participant brought home a medal! Here are our math heroes:

  • Wong Jer Ren – Silver Medal
  • Ivan Chan Guan Yu – Silver Medal
  • Daryl Lee Ker Ru – Bronze Medal
  • Leia Maryssa Masyerin – Bronze Medal
  • Tan Min Heng – Bronze Medal
  • Nelson Loh Kwong Weng – Bronze Medal

A Bright Future Ahead

As some of these students approach the age limit for participating in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), this year’s competition will mark their final journey in this prestigious contest. However, their mathematical talents and problem-solving skills have opened doors to incredible opportunities at some of the world’s top universities:

  • Wong Jer Ren: Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
  • Tan Min Heng: University of Cambridge
  • Nelson Loh Kwong Weng: National University of Singapore (NUS)

Their achievements are a testament to the bright future awaiting those who pursue their passion in mathematics! But remember, these students didn’t just appear out of nowhere—they were discovered, trained, and nurtured from among the talented students right here at home. And guess what? That could be you!

Journey into the World of Maths Olympiads

All these students began their journey with IMONST (International Mathematical Olympiad National Selection Test), a maths competition open to all Malaysian students under the age of 20. If there is a place to forge your pathway into Maths Olympiad, this is one of the best ways to begin. The top students from IMONST will be invited to a series of workshops designed to prepare for various international maths competitions. From there, the best six are chosen to represent Malaysia at the IMO!

IMONST is now approved by KPM!

Joining IMONST isn’t just about the experience; you also earn PAJSK points now! So why not give it a shot? It’s a great way to challenge yourself with tricky math problems and sharpen your critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Since 2020, over 14,000 students have taken up the IMONST challenge. Will you be next?

IMONST 1 2024 is now open for registration until the 13th of September. Time is running out! Book your place now at https://tinyurl.com/imonst2024register.
