KUALA LUMPUR: The integration of 140 artificial intelligence (AI) solution providers into Malaysia’s digital ecosystem, spearheaded by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), has so far generated RM1 billion in revenue, according to Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo.
He emphasized that the growth of these companies highlights the potential of the AI sector in Malaysia. “Their success reflects the growing impact of AI on the nation’s economy and its potential for future development,” Gobind said during his speech at MDEC’s Malaysia Digital Tech Adoption Summit: Artificial Intelligence, held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel on Thursday yesterday, September 12 2024.
MDEC chairman Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh was also in attendance.
MDEC’s head of digital industry acceleration, Wan Murdani Wan Mohamad, shared that the sectors benefiting from the Malaysia Digital (MD) AI Ecosystem include services, finance, digital cities, and digital agriculture technology (AgTech), with all participating companies being local Malaysian firms.
In his address, Syed Ibrahim stressed the importance of integrating AI into daily life, noting its ability to enhance productivity for both the public and private sectors. He also emphasized the need to invest in upskilling the workforce to ensure Malaysians are equipped for the AI-driven future.
“We believe that AI offers vast opportunities for growth and diversification. This summit marks a key milestone in shaping Malaysia’s AI landscape and positioning the country at the forefront of global digital innovation,” he added.
Syed Ibrahim also highlighted the importance of ethical AI usage and ensuring that its benefits are widely shared across society. “Responsible use of AI, inclusivity, and ethical governance will be fundamental as we navigate this transformative journey,” he said.
