Malaysia is the most obese country in Asia with 50.1% of Adults facing alarming obesity problems. Hence, Obesity among children is also at alarming rates. Obesity inactively greatly limits our Muslim communities to compete in every competitive and productive global economy.
Child Obesity Campaign is a plan for action to reduce levels of childhood obesity, improve the health and wellbeing of children, and contribute toward reducing future pressures in society. Childhood obesity treatments should involve a combination of lifestyle changes including strategies to reduce energy intake, increase physical activity, reduce sedentary activities, facilitate family involvement, and change behaviors associated with eating and physical activity.
In Malaysia, we have “Adult and Childhood Obesity Prevention Organization” an NGO specifically founded to combat the rise of obesity and inactivity that will touch all Malaysian communities including children, youth, adults, and the elderly.
Whereas, “Bukan Soal Kurus Sekolah” is a Community-Reach Program To Empower Schools & The Community with the right hands-on knowledge on happy-balance-healthy living and advocacy on how to lose weight, improve exercise, nutritional habits, and mental health through the required training and sufficient exercise in order to combat obesity, malnutrition & inactivity in schools and the community.
This program is aimed particularly at school-going children/teenagers, teachers, Parents-teachers’ Association, parents, youth, and the community surrounding the school. Also, the main reason “Bukan Soal Kurus” was taken as the theme of the program is because it is NOT only a weight loss program to lose weight, but it is also a program to improve the quality of life by raising awareness of the importance of Mental Health towards Ourself, Family Member and Surroundings.
“Let’s get our children off to a healthier start, by saying ‘Kurang Manis’ today for a sweeter tomorrow”
-Marianne Clark-Hattingh, UNICEF Representative in Malaysia-
Tips for parents;
Parents and caregivers can help prevent childhood obesity by providing healthy meals, snacks, physical activity, and nutrition education. Also, nutritious meals and snacks provide nutrition for growing bodies while modeling healthy eating behavior and attitudes.
In short, we should all continue to empower the community, especially children and youth in Malaysia to balance a healthy and happy lifestyle with the right knowledge of balanced nutrition and mental health, along with consistent support from the community. We all have a role to play in helping children eat healthier, grow up stronger, and reach their full potential. For every child, a healthy life.
Let us all choose a healthier lifestyle by supporting and providing a safe platform like Pandai, as parents can easily monitor their children with our features. We reward them with coins whenever they are playing while learning and the coins can be used for various types of vouchers like Starbucks, Roblox, Mobile Legend, and many more!
